ABOUT SEAGF

SEAGF - South East Asian Games Federation

The South East Asian Games Federation, or SEAGF, is the non-governmental body governing the South East Asian Games, or SEA Games:

1958

Conceptualized in May 1958 (during the Asian Games in Tokyo Japan then), the founding six (6) member-NOCs, namely, Myanmar, Kampuchea (now known as Cambodia), Laos, Malaya (as it then was), Thailand and Vietnam, formed the then SEAP Federation, and participated in the first South East Asian Peninsular Games, or SEAP Games, as it was then known, in Bangkok, Thailand, in June 1959.

1963

As from 16th September 1963, the eleven (11) States of Malaya together with the States of Sabah, Sarawak and Singapore became Malaysia; the NOC of Malaysia continued to be a member of the SEAGF.

1965

As from 9th August 1965, the State of Singapore ceased to be a State of Malaysia, and became the independent Republic of Singapore, and its NOC continued to be a member of the SEAGF.

1977

As from 5th February 1977, the respective NOC of the Republic of Indonesia, and of the Republic of Philippines, became members of the SEAGF.

1977

As from 10th November, 1977, the NOC of Brunei Darussalam became a member of the SEAGF.

2003

As from 2003 the NOC of East Timor, now known as Timor Leste, became a member of the SEAGF.

As such, currently, the SEAGF comprise of the eleven (11) NOCs of the eleven (11) SEA countries, namely, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand, Timor-Leste and Vietnam.

The SEAGF is an independent organization, free from all political, governmental and/or other-party affiliation or interference. The SEA Games is the exclusive property of the SEAGF, which owns all rights relating thereto, in particular, without limitation, the rights relating to organization, exploitation, broadcasting, and reproduction by any means whatsoever and howsoever, and all funds raised and profits made from such rights, belong exclusively to the SEAGF. All such rights are managed by the SEAGF Office, and accounted for, and reported to the SEAGF Council.

The overall governing body of the SEAGF is the SEAGF Council, which comprises of the delegates-representatives of each of the eleven (11) SEAGF Member-NOCs.
